In Supreme Court case of Catholic Charities Bureau Inc. versus Wisconsin Labor & Industry Review Commission, HAF has joined an amicus brief, filed on February 3, 2025, along with eleven other religious groups.

Prior to HAF involvement, the brief only included perspectives from Christianity, Catholicism, Islam, and Judaism. HAF drafted language to ensure inclusion of a Hindu perspective on charitable giving and religious organizational structure, particularly the ways Hindu practices can differ in the United States.

Commenting on the Foundation’s involvement, HAF Legal Director Needhy Shah stated:

“The government should not get involved in deciding what activities are ‘religious’ for any religion, and this principle is particularly important to safeguarding religious freedom for religious minorities whose views may not be well-understood.”
