This year HAF decided to celebrate Holi in a very unique way. On March 9th, we organized, in collaboration with Jewish Silicon Valley and JCRC a never done before Holi-Purim interfaith celebration at the fabulous Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center in Los Gatos.
The more than 500 people in attendance celebrated two joyous festival outdoors with music, dancing, cultural performances, food, interactive booths, crafts, henna, Purim costumes and Holi colors. This memorable celebration was joyful, positive and very well received by the audience.
The Hindu and the Jewish communities had a fabulous time playing Holi with each other, many in costumes that’s are popular Purim tradition.
Happiness, interfaith unity and the celebration of good over evil were the themes of the event. The story of Prahlada and Hiranyakashipu was beautifully narrated through classical dance by Snigda Venkataramani and her son Arohan and so was the story of queen Esther. Several Hindu-Jewish couples were delighted about attending this celebration and shared words of gratitude with the organizers.
Thanks to the mayor of Cupertino, Liang Chao, for attending and presenting HAF, JCRC, and Jewish Silicon Valley with certificates of recognition. We are grateful to Senator Josh Becker for prioritizing Holi Purim and making the event more memorable by his enthusiastic participation.
It was wonderful to see children and adults from both the communities covered in colors from head to toe with the brightest smiles on their faces and getting Henna designs done.
Ramya Ramakrishnan HAF’s Community Outreach Director, Jessica Blitchok, Director of Community Partnerships at JCRC and Maya Tripp Jewish Life and Cultural Director at Jewish Silicon Valley planned, collaborated and organized the highly successful Holi-Purim event.
