Your kids grew up attending Balvihar classes. Your family visited the temple regularly and celebrated Holi, Diwali, and Hindu festivals in a grand way. You sent your children off to college with a foundation in Hinduism.
But each time they come home, you notice they question their Hindu upbringing more and more. And tensions in the household arise. Your children are citing their progressive professors who discuss Hinduism as an hierarchical caste-based tradition, their college newspaper that runs a piece denying the tragedy of Kashmiri Pandit experience, and their classmates that share ill-sourced, but compelling Instagram posts which portray Hindus as oppressors in India.
Your attempts to dialog with them are seemingly futile. And you ask yourself, “How did this 180 degree change happen? How do I get through to them?”
Join me for an engaging conversation with three young adults as we take a deeper dive to what really happens on college campuses, why Hindu American kids are doing a 180, and how we, as parents, can have a real conversation with our children.
