In the last weeks of 2024 and continuing into the current year, billboards in the Bay Area have been urging the public to #AskYunusWhy Bangladeshi Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians have continued to be persecuted in the aftermath of the ouster of Sheikh Hasina last year.

The first billboard of the campaign was unveiled at a prominent location on Freeway 880-N and Market Street in Oakland before Christmas. This was followed by another billboard  in San Mateo-Hayward CA-92, Westbound during the first week of January. Over the next three months, digital billboards at six key locations across the Bay Area, including high-traffic zones and major bridges, will display thought-provoking messages designed to raise awareness and spark conversations around this critical issue.

Organized by the United Hindu Council (@UHC_Media) and Hindu Americans in the Silicon Valley, the campaign is the result of a small group of grassroots area leaders who wanted to highlight the atrocities committed against minority communities in Bangladesh since Mohammad Yunus formed his interim government.

Commenting on the campaign HAF’s Community Outreach Director Ramya Ramakrishnan applauded the Bay Area Hindu community for their advocacy efforts and involvement to bring attention to the dire situation in Bangladesh.

Ramakrishan said, “People have been asking what they can do as individuals and constituents to let their voices be heard by those in power. They are also tired of the biased media reports omitting accurate facts about the situation of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh and therefore decided that they needed to take action themselves. As the nation’s largest and oldest civil rights organization, HAF has been involved in advocating for the rights of Hindu minority for decades and is happy to support this effort by the United Hindu Council and provide assistance when needed.”
