Washington, DC (September 19, 2016) — Hindu American Foundation (HAF) leaders condemn the apparently linked bomb blasts in Seaside Park, New Jersey and the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City on Saturday.
Early on Saturday morning a pipe bomb blast forced the cancellation of the Marine Corp Marathon, in Seaside Park, New Jersey, approximately 80 miles south of New York City. Later in the day, an explosion on 23rd Street injured 29 people, while a parallel attack a short distance away was avoided only due to an apparently faulty bomb that failed to detonate. Connected to these attacks, late on Sunday evening, a bag containing similar explosive devices was discovered near the Elizabeth, New Jersey train station. The perpetrator suspected of being behind all the New York and New Jersey attacks, Ahmad Khan Rahami, has been brought into custody after a firefight with police in New Jersey today.
At nearly the exact time of the New York blast, at the Crossroads Mall in St Cloud, Minnesota, a knife wielding assailant, now identified as Dahir Adan, stabbed nine people before being fatally wounded by an off-duty police officer on Saturday. A bulletin released by ISIS claimed credit for the attack.
“We thank law enforcement officers in New Jersey and in Minnesota for ensuring public safety and apprehending the perpetrators of these attacks,” said Jay Kansara, HAF Director of Government Relations. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of these attacks and for the speedy recovery of any who remain injured.”
