On September 23, 2024, HAF’s Executive Director Suhag Shukla, Esq. and Managing Director Samir Kalra submitted written testimony to the US Senate Judiciary Committee as part of the Congressional Record for the Committee’s September 17th hearing, “A Threat to Justice Everywhere: Stemming the Tide of Hate Crimes in America.”

The testimony details the history and alarming rise of anti-Hindu hate, particularly against Hindu places of worship, citing recent data from both the FBI and State of California.

Samir Kalra said, “HAF’s written testimony emphasizes to the Senate Judiciary Committee that not only are anti-Hindu hate crimes on the rise, but most perpetrators have yet to be held accountable. There is a pervasive misconception that anti-Hindu hate does not exist, but 2023 hate crime data from the FBI and recent temple attacks in California and New York prove otherwise. The attacks on Hindu temples have become so frequent that the Indian-origin members of Congress sent a letter earlier this year to the Department of Justice demanding an inquiry. We hope our testimony will motivate the Senate Judiciary Committee to prioritize addressing anti-Hindu hate as it seeks to stem the tide of hate crimes.”
